Q & As

What ages are best for pictures within the first year?
It’s best to schedule your newborn shoot as soon as possible. I like to book the session for one week after the due date. We can always move it around, but it’s so important to get the pictures done within the first 2 weeks, I prefer to take their pictures in the first 9 days. This is when they’re sleepy and wonderful! After the newborn shoot it’s a great idea to schedule shoots during each of the major landmarks (3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year). I am available to come to your home if that makes you more comfortable.

What should I wear?
Solid colors tend to photograph the best, sometimes patterns can be distracting to the eye. Black is ideal for newborn pictures. Little girls in white dresses are also a favorite of mine. Royal blue looks great for maternity sessions. Ultimately, I think what’s most important is that you feel comfortable. It’s not really about your clothes, it’s all about you and your family.

If you’re planning a boudoir session, contact me and we can chat about different styling options.

How long will the shoot last?
Typically my shoots last about an hour, but I’m very flexible. I work with and around my client. If they’re happy and having fun, I’ll shoot as long as they let me. But I don’t want tears, picture day is supposed to be fun. It’s all about having fun. A typical newborn shoot is an hour to an hour and a half.

How many pictures can I expect?
It really depends on the type of shoot, but typically between 50-75 images for a standard 1 hour portrait session.

What should I bring?
I’m not a really big “prop” photographer, but if you have something that is sentimental definitely bring it. Meaningful stuffed animals, blankets, family heirlooms, and cute hats are awesome. Bring a couple outfits if you’re unsure, but mostly I like the naked babies and all their rolls.

How will I proof the photos after the session?
Your images will be posted to your very own web page for you to view and share with friends and family. You’ll be able to view the images in color, black & white, and sepia. You’ll also be able to place orders for prints, announcements, digital images and more…all from within that very same page!

How long does it take until the proof gallery is posted?
For most portrait sessions, your gallery will be posted within 3-4 business days. Weddings and other bigger events take quite a while longer because we typically use two shooters. So, a good rule of thumb is to expect it to take 1 week for every 1 hour of coverage.
